Theatre Salon
On Thursday, November 29th, the history of the circus will be the subject of a Theatre Salon.
Horse shows and clowning
The Special Collections, together with the Eighteenth Century Working Group, celebrate the fact that 250 years ago a certain Philip Astley, ex-cavalryman from the British Army, decided to give horse shows, interspersed with clowning and acrobatics. This formula proved very successful and found a wide audience, both in England and on mainland Europe.
